Review of Logan's Run (1976) by Hal H — 20 Oct 2013
Logan's Run Is much better in the book but the movie was still a good one. I disagree that it was about religion. It was mainly about humanity being controlled by computers and losing what makes life worth living such as love vice empty sex and freedom of the individual vice being a lab rat. Ultimately, the flaw in the story is that no society so controlled would survive under such circumstances because of the natural human desire to be free. On the other hand, it does serve as a warning against the evil of a state controlled "womb to the tomb" idea. We have that experiment going on right now. How long before Logan Runs again? The problem is that since America is the last best hope for freedom; When it goes, where would you run to??? The ugly truth is that no one ever receives "Renewal" because the very nature of the city precludes a growing population. So, death at 30 is the price of living in it. I don't know what gladiatorial battle the reviewer is talking about, Carousel and Renewal are the same thing. There was nothing peaceful about it. The "Sandmen" are required to terminate runners because the city is only capable of sustaining a certain level of population.
I would venture few commenting saw it in the theater. I did and along with our tickets we received red life crystal stickers to put on our palms...
