This is a movie that is crying out for a remake. It has a great concept that could translate well into a modern film but, unfortunately, in its original form it is a little dated and, as a result, a pretty camp and cheesy affair.

Still, if you approach this movie as it is best to approach all 70s sci-fi; with a keen awareness of the context in which the film was made and an open mind, it's still a very enjoyable way to spend two hours.

I was impressed with most of the sets - both in the City and the ruined buildings of Washington - and I loved the over the top costumes. In a film filled with mediocre and hammy performances, Peter Ustinov shines in his role as the crazy old man - if there is to be a remake I'd worry about who was cast in this role; they'd have to be good to follow in Ustinov's footsteps.

The story moves at a good pace and there's also plenty of (unintentional) humour to be found in the script!
