LOGAN LUCKY-2017(PG-13)-Aug. 18.

By:Clem The Movie Guy.

After a four year hiatus from the film business, acclaimed filmmaker Steven Soderbergh returns with Logan Lucky, which he has described as a hillbilly verison of his Ocean?s film trilogy style. After Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum), a hard-working blue collar Virginian is unexpectedly let go from his construction job, He hatches a plan to steal the proceeds from a day's take at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. Using the knowledge of the Speedway?s new system of transferring the money, gained while he worked on a construction job there, Jimmy recruits his war vet brother Clyde (Adam Driver), little sister Mellie (Riley Keough) along with convicted safecracker Joe Bang (Daniel Craig), &  Joe's screwy brothers Sam (Brian Gleeson, the son of Brendan Gleeson) & Fish (Jack Quaid, the son of Meg Ryan & Dennis Quaid) to pull off the complicated heist. When Jimmy learns that the construction job at the Speedway is nearing completion, he is forced to move the heist up to big upcoming NASCAR Coke-Cola 600 race  during Memorial Day weekend. Logan Lucky is directed, shot & edited by Steven Soderbergh from a screenplay written by Rebecca Blunt (who may not exist). Soderbergh has made a film that contains some of the best elements of a Coen Brothers or a Wes Anderson style of film: wildly entertaining, with outrageous characters, dry humor & complex storylines that at times challenge the viewer. Logan Lucky also features Katie Holmes as Jimmy?s ex-wife Bobbie Jo Logan Chapman, Seth MacFarlane as British businessman Max Chilblain, Katherine Waterston as Sylvia Harrison, Dwight Yoakam as Warden Burns, Sebastian Stan as NASCAR driver Dayton White, & Hilary Swank as FBI special agent Sarah Grayson. The performances from this all-star cast were fantastic. It was kind of shocking to see usually serious Daniel Craig reveal the funny twisted side of his character Joe Bang. If you are a huge fan of films from the Coen Brothers & Wes Anderson & appreciate Soderbergh then Logan Lucky is for you. MUST-SEE FILM.
