Review of Logan Lucky (2017) by Dirigiblepulp — 27 Sep 2017
Steven Soderbergh has some fun in the south. It's a heist movie y'all and tonally it seems a little bit torn between reverence and mocking. Maybe that's intentional. Maybe Soderbergh is saying that not everyone is a hillbilly redneck, not that there's anything wrong with that, but of course they exist just like idiots can exist anywhere? I hope so anyway.
It's not the twistiest heist ever, and a few key plot points seems to wind up mattering very little or not at all dramatically. There's a hilarious scene about Game of Thrones during a prison riot and on the opposite end of the spectrum, a beautiful tear-jerker by a little girl singing John Denver. Daniel Craig kills, Seth MacFarlane chills (he's alright, but ultimately pointless).
