Review of Logan (2017) by Devo-Nc — 06 Mar 2017
Good movie. Very well made. Terrific performances.A nice way for Wolverine to go out. It has it's powerful moments. However, it's very overrated. Just because it is made much grittier and appeases to more of a traditional western style, doesn't give it more power.
It's a good 20 minutes too long. There is a half-hour portion somewhere in the middle of the film where it really slows down and nothing is happening. Resting and dwelling isn't character build-up. All of the emotion between the 3 main characters resonates very well.
But the main conflict against the villains of the piece make for a very weak back and forth. The villains are terrible. When something does happen in this movie, it's because the bad guys have come along to kill the protagonists.
So your getting a very dry adventure along with a lot of emotionless and excessive violence. Shockingly, instead of being something original, the picture's style and tone is only meant to throwback to an older physique.
I can appreciate the care and strength pulsating within this movie, but a more important relevance to the moviegoing experience is being entertained. And the narrative structure of Logan lacks flow. There isn't any momentary hooks, where the movie takes turns, unless it has something to do with killing somebody.
I like this movie, just not as much as I thought I would.
