Is this movie a great Sci-Fi action movie, no! But it's fully aware of what it is, it's over budget B movie, with witty, stupid dialogue, and cliche action scenes, but it's fully aware of it.
So this makes it a bearable watch, and not so horrible. It doesn't hurt that Guy Pearce is the star because you can't help routing for him.
