Review of Lockout (2012) by Alan Fong D — 28 Jun 2016
Not particularly a good film, but it's just as great as any of Jean-Claude Van Damme's B-Rated goodness. The film, if to be judged from the perspective of not taking it seriously, is nothing but a Luc Besson's production.
'Fast-paced, high-octane and extremely entertaining' might just be the precise phrase for the film. With a context served more like a generic action-packed video-game flick, the film begins in a hurry, not to mention the crankily done special-effects (maybe it's European-influenced, oh wait, green screen) and Guy Pearce's smart-ass verbal remarks that both might just be as good as any direct-to-video action flicks, Of course, the movie ended abruptly with a bang.
Don't get me wrong, Guy Pearce owned the whole movie with his consistent charm as a joke-vomiting special agent, Maggie Grace is hot. Comedic essence were thrown around along the way. It's like an amusement park roller-coaster, you buy the tickets, you go for a dizzy yet reasonably purposeless ride, yet you feel thrilled after the whole messed-up upside down scenario.
Since the film took place in outer space, the visuals created were acceptably beautiful in a style utopian of its own way. At the end of the day, such film was made to be not taken seriously, but instead delivers the usual rote of bullets-firing gun and loud explosions for a specifically testosterone-charged bunch who are looking forward for an entertaining show.
