Review of Locke (2014) by Orlando O — 21 Aug 2014
Who knew a movie taking its entire place in a car will be entertaining? It is one very long drive, and you do feel every minute of it. It is Tom Hardy's highlight of his career and pulling an outstanding performance. It is the only thing the movie aims for while every thing is very much like an experimental to see his character driving while everything unravels around him.
Ivan Locke (Tom Hardy) who is in charge for a large concrete pour. Locke takes off from work one night, drives to London. Locke calls, tells his boss he is quitting but will make sure his responsibilities in concrete pouring are taking care of. He calls his wife, telling her he has a responsibility he has to take care that may or may not affect their marriage and that he may be unable to return home. Without giving much away, it has a sharp interesting premise. Except, the movies long ride journey does become tiresome and very slow.
Tom Hardy gave an outstanding performance, portraying a character trying to take responsibility and trying to control the situation while every thing is slowly unraveling as he takes a long drive to London.
Locke tries to be a powerful drama film showing Tom Hardy's great performance in a movie that is rather slow and boring.
