Review of Locke (2014) by Jason H — 22 Sep 2014
Tom Hardy is quickly becoming one of the best actors of his generation able to move between big budget films and films such as this .
Hardy plays builder Ivan Locke a happy family man who has a great job and a bright future ahead of him.
Then he decides to leave his place of work and drive to London to face a dark secret which has come back to haunt him.
Over the films running time Locke's world both business and personal begins to fall apart and his difficult relationship with his father becomes all too clear.
Hardy puts in the performance of his career here channelling the great Richard Burton with his accent and Director Steven Knights sure footed direction.
The unseen pieces in his life are voiced by acting luminaries such as Olivia Coleman and Ruth Wilson and just by voice alone they add to the predicament that Locke finds himself in.
The film is at one point tragic the next very funny.
And after the shambles of Hummingbird Steven Knight gets his directing career back on the right track.
But its Hardy who shines here and if there was any justice he would win every award going for his performance.
