Review of Locke (2014) by Brett H — 18 Oct 2014
An amazing one-man-show type of performance where the entire film is literally Tom Hardy driving a car while making numerous phone calls that drive the plot! The making of this film is insane; filming it in six nights of non-stop driving with Hardy performing the whole script in one take! The story is surprisingly gripping as more and more problems arise and Ivan has to use his intelligence to solve everything over the phone.
Tom Hardy has rarely been better and the film plays out as a strong morality test making you wonder what you would do in his situation. I did have a problem with the now-typical "indepedent film non-ending" where we're given no conclusion as I was expecting something profound, but it is a filmmaking marvel and one of the best one-man, one-location films ever made!
