Because of Tom Hardy's performance, which is a truly masterful tour de force, it's impossible not to respect this film as an ingeniously crafted take on one man's journey, in real time, from point A to point B, during which time we learn of the dilemmas he must deal with and the tension and chaos he experiences through the constant car phone interactions with all those involved. This began to seem more like an anxiety inducing endurance test for me. I felt as though Hardy's character was not only a fool but a nightmarishly selfish human being. For this reason, I found myself wishing he would end the uncomfortable tension and drive off a cliff.
