Review of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) by Connor _ — 17 Jan 2010
Guy Ritchie's first film, and one of his best. Though he's only done 6 movies so far, he knows exactly what he's doing and how he wants it done. Ritchie, both my favorite director and writer, is very clever and smart, and he knows how to involve many different characters, each with well written characteristics and personalities, all interacting with each other in different ways.
He knows how to tie in many different plots and still make the film work wonderfully. Vinnie Jones is very good, portraying a hired gun who brings his son along on his jobs, bringing him up as his successor.
Sting appears in some scenes, showing us he can not only make brilliant music, but also act. Jason Flemyng, another very good actor, gives an award-deserving performance as one of four young trouble-making crooks who think they can take on the British underworld.
This film is very very well written and well acted. 8.9/10.
