Review of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) by Izzat A — 07 Apr 2010
One word: Classic. When I thought Snatch can never be topped, I saw the original film and the one that trigerred the making of Snatch. Lock, Stock is a brilliant classy crime comedy that does not stop to amaze in every scene;Lock, Stock is one of the very few films that does not have a single boring moment.
It is filled with twists, unforgetable one liners and tons of original crazy comic situations from the first scene with Statham trying to sell some stolen products till the "brilliant" ending scene.
I frequently even hit the pause button to give myself the chance to laugh without missing another hilarious moment while laughing. The acting was top notch from the entire cast although none of them were huge star; the movie also is the debut for two of my favorite stars Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones.
Guy Ritchie did his best here in his debut film and then tried the same style and copied himself in his other crime comdies he succeded in Snatch (some may argue that Snatch is a mature version of Lock,Stock) but did not really stand out in Rock N` Rolla; anyway I consider him the master of this genre.
Lock ,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels despite its ridiclously long title is a great movie and really deserves to be one of the top movies in the 90s and the greatest films ever according to IMDB list.
