Review of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) by Kelechi O — 28 Dec 2010
One of the films that put Guy Ritchie on the map. A darkly humorous look into a portion of the London Underworld (Cockney accent and all) and how four friends get mixed up in it by accident (a card game in which one of them gets set up and ripped off, BTW).
This film also introduces Ritchie's style of presentation - multiple sub-plots interweaving with each other, in fact clashing with each other, as the climax in the end draws near. This presentation style keeps the film moving, although it results in it being hard to follow at times.
The film coloring (a beige/sephia type) was something that I didn't care that much for, but the story and acting (not to mention the character's accents) more than made up for it.
