Review of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) by Bryant V — 05 May 2012
British black comedy at it's hardcore with great performances and great one-liners, saying that it is well-written by Guy Richie (His debut) and amazingly directed. You've got to have major talent and guts to write AND direct.
The film has some great colourful characters, all unique in their own way. It's a low budget but they've done a fantasic job with it. First watch, you may get a tad confused but it's an amazing plot but best of all it's very, very funny.
..the razor-sharp dialog is hip and slick and brilliantly dark while funny at the sametime. The cast are amazing, with some making their major film debuts and each and every one of them are fantastic. I've said before but the script is brilliant, producing some brilliant hard-boiled one liners and some awesome scenes that you'll remember for a long time.
We Brits do alot of gangster films but this one of the best out there. It won't be for everyone, with all the foul langauge but it's a film that uses it brilliantly in a funny and context way.
Also, Vinnie Jones is spot on, even if he is playing himself somewhat, he's a great edition to the film. Best british film for a long time. Must watch...NOW!!
