Review of Living in Oblivion (1995) by Dan G — 27 Jan 2010
Wow where did this film come from? Most films I watch are shown or suggested by my film teacher and I'm really glad I took it. This film is one of those clever and original films that are great but never really click with American audiences. Why? The film is TOO smart perhaps?
Directed by Tom DiCillo, Oblivion tells the tale of director Nick Reve(Steve Buscemi) who's one goal is to finish his low-budget indie film. Because this film is told in 3 acts(2 dreams and 1 not) there are three seperate scenes Nick trys his best to finish, although not succesfully.
Steve Buscemi is an amazing actor which is ironic because he is normally given supporting roles, never really able to show the world what he can do. Kathrine Keener is also an amazing actress who just seems to pop up everywhere.
With an unbeleievably low-budget and an amazingly clever idea, DiCillio has made the true defenition of an independent film.
