Review of Live Free or Die Hard (2007) by Jesse M — 21 Jun 2013
The fourth and long awaited installment of Die Hard is quite simply the best sequel in the series. This time the threat is very believable and close to real and relevant as a Die Hard can get. It deals with our political climate about terrorism, home security, and technology in this day and age. It is surrounded by top notch action scenes, a totally game Bruce Willis, and a humorous and more relatable Justin Long. I love the concept of analog vs. digital, it gives McClane an endearing challenge since he is clearly out of his depth against the more tech savvy cyber terrorists. It also shows McClane's spirit which is unbeatable even amidst considerable odds.
Now yes they tagged this with a PG-13 rating which upset fans, but to me it proved just how durable this series is which is still great without the f bombs. There does exist an unrated cut for those who need the profanity. Btw the yippie kay yay was used to the most bad ass effect so bravo on that. Overall a fantastic action film and one of the strongest entries in the Die Hard canon.
