Review of Live and Let Die (1973) by Anton B — 02 Dec 2010
Fans of Roger Moore's James Bond consider this one of his best films, so I thought I would give it another chance. This viewing, I was more interested in the Harlem-New Orleans-San Monique connection than before, and I like how the elements of blaxploitation make Bond seem like a fish out of water.
However, after all the imitations and spoofs of James Bond over the years, I cannot take Moore's winks and hammy urbanity seriously. When Roger Moore is on the screen I do not see James Bond; I see a man pretending to be James Bond.
