Review of Little Shop of Horrors (1986) by Kyle F — 20 Dec 2009
A cult classic indeed!!!!! This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. The film had one of the best soundtracks ever in any movie. Little Shop of Horrors is the 1986 musical film adaptation of the off-Broadway musical comedy of the same name by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a vicious plant that feeds on human blood.
The film was directed by Frank Oz, and stars Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, and the voice of Levi Stubbs as the plant. Ashman wrote the film's screenplay, his first and only one before his death in 1991.
The movie is about Seymour Krelborn, a nerdy young assistant in a New York City florist shop. Seymour and Audrey Fulquard , his coworker, with all the other tenants of their Skid Row area complain of their surroundings.
The day of an unexpected total eclipse, Seymour discovers a mysterious new plant, which resembles a Venus Flytrap. He names the plant "Audrey II" in honor of Audrey. Seymour has a secret crush on Audrey, but Audrey doesn't know it.
However, when the shop closes for the day, Seymour discovers that Audrey II is wilting from lack of food. It refuses to eat anything normal plants would feed on, such as soil, water and sunlight. Seymour accidentally cuts his finger and discovers that Audrey II has an appetite for human blood.
All the acting was great in this film, Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene make the movie worthwhile, and Steve Martin is hilarious in this one. The directing was great, Frank Oz couldn't have done it better.
This movie is funny and with some catchey tunes. One of the best musicals ever to be made into a movie. I wish I could have seen the musical!! This is one movie I never get tired off. Audrey II is awesome!!! Two BIG Thumbs up!!!!! A great movie for the whole family.
