Review of Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland (1989) by Chantal B — 23 Sep 2014
Irksomely (and inexplicably) based more on the NES video game adaptation than the original Winsor McCay comics, and with a number of cliche elements, but still surprisingly charming. I'm told this was something of an international collaboration, with some input from Hayao Miyazaki, which no doubt helped.
As a bit of trivia, Mayazaki remarked that working on this film was one of the worst experiences of his professional life, but the result is a movie that contains some heart and whimsy you wouldn't normally expect from, essentially, a video game adaptation.
