Review of Little Monsters (1989) by Sean M — 28 May 2011
This shameless E.T. knockoff was borderline unwatchable, and I never would have gotten through it if I wasnâ??t drunk. Fred Savage, the kid from The Wonder Years, plays the main kid, and Howie Mandel, the guy from Deal or No Deal, plays the blue monster Maurice.
This is your typical E.T. movie where a kid befriends a weird monster and they become â??best friends.â?? The formula is tired and stupid. It is never even clear if Maurice is a bad guy or a good guy.
In the opening scene Fred Savage says he was the best friend he ever had, but then the monster starts ruining everything and doing malicious deeds to all the kids and contributes in Ericâ??s kidnapping, but then in the end he saves the day.
WTF? Besides that, everything in this movie just looks horrible. The makeup and costumes for the monsters look like crap, the sets for the underground world look like crap, everything just sucks. The acting by most of the kids makes you cringe, too.
I definitely say skip it.
