Review of Little Miss Sunshine (2006) by Campbell P — 16 Mar 2015

Little Miss Sunshine is an inspiring comedy that stars the talents of Greg Kinnear, Toni Colette, Steve Carell, and Alan Arkin. The film is incredibly entertaining and fun in every way. The cast is so fun and enjoyable it's really hard to not love them.

The cast is incredibly talented and I loved all of them in this movie. Little Miss Sunshine had a really fun story of a little girl who won (by default) the Little Miss Sunshine contest and gets to go to California for the finals.

Throughout the movie the family of misfits gets in their broken down yellow van and encounters many mishaps along the way. The film is really a lot of things. It's a drama, a comedy, an adventure and kind of depressing at times really.

The depressing parts mainly involving Frank but it's not distracting or anything. The family all kind of learns from this trip and get to know really each other better on their journey. The dad who at first was kinda stubborn and selfish turned into a family man, Dwayne turned into a happier guy, Frank learned to enjoy life more, and Alan Arkin didn't really learn a ton but he was memorable hehe.

There are many really heartfelt moments in the movie that made me really like the movie such as the talk between Olive and Grandpa, the scene when (spoiler!) the grandpa passes, Dwayne learning he's colorblind, and the scene where they all dance together.

To add on top of everything it was really funny. Alan Arkin was hysterical! The only thing that could've helped in the movie is if the pageant scene was a bit longer, I feel like there could've been more they can do.

Little Miss Sunshine had a lot of moral lessons, it was funny, dramatic, cute, and powerful even. The cast was great and so was the movie. B+.
