Review of Little Miss Sunshine (2006) by Jimmy B — 07 Aug 2013
Little Miss Sunshine caught me completely by surprise and a rather pleasant one at that. It all boils down to be a superb family road movie. We are introduced to the dysfunctional Hoover family and regardless of their individual problems they all agree to trek across America in an attempt to get youngest member of the family, Olive, to the Little Miss Sunshine Pageant in California.
The Family is full of amazing characters, from the suicidal Uncle who has come to stay, to the Grandfather who has been kicked out of his old peoples home due to his Heroin addiction. They are all perfectly played with clout, work really well together and together make an interesting and realistic family unit.
Particular praise goes to Steve Carell and Alan Arkin who are by far the funniest on screen. It is light-hearted, often hilarious with a side order of sad moments. It sucks you right into the family dynamic as they go through string of outrageous events as they fight their way across the country.
It's also a real tear jerker at times but one things for sure you'll be very pleased you have watched it and as the credits roll you'll be filled with a heart-warming happiness that definitely makes this a 5 star film to remember.
