Review of Little Miss Sunshine (2006) by Guido S — 05 Jan 2014

Steve Carell is released after trying to kill himself. He stays with family. The father is a former motivational speaker and is trying to strike a book deal. The daughter is trying to enter a beauty pageant.

The son is trying to get into the Air Force by making a promise to be mute until he gets accepted. The grandfather is a sex crazed old man. They embark out on a journey to enter the daughter into the beauty pageant.

Along the way, things don't go as they should. The car breaks down, the grandfather dies, the father's book deal doesn't go through, the son finds out he is color blind thus eliminating him from getting into the Air Force.

Then when they get to the pageant, they realize it wasn't for her, but they come together to accept they they aren't all perfect and things aren't always great, but they still have each other and they enjoy who and what they are with all their imperfections.

A pretty solid dark comedy. A good odd way of making an uplifting movie through a lot of depressing things happening throughout. Still holds up pretty well, too.
