Review of Little Miss Sunshine (2006) by Ryan M — 20 May 2014

It is about as good as a dysfunctional family dark comedy can get. Everybody pulls their own weight as far as performances go, especially Abigail Breslin, Steve Carell, and Paul Dano. I also like the on-screen chemistry of Carell and Dano, two misfits who feel that the world is always against them, and Breslin and Arkin, who have one particularly touching moment that can make a person tear up.

There are some implausible moments that occur just to move the plot along, but again, it's a comedy at heart, so there's bound to be moments where suspension of disbelief is necessary. It also carries a strong message about how society perceives self-image and the power of family, despite many obstacles that can get in the way of that.
