Review of Little Fish (2005) by Bowen E — 27 Mar 2008
Amazing cinematography (someone went a little wild with the coloured filters) and very effective use of lighting, which left me very disorientated and on edge. But here is where the praise comes to an end.
Cate Blanchett seemed to be 'acting' a little too hard, Sam Neil's character was a shameless caricature, Hugo Weaving seemed entirely loss (a good thing for his druggie persona, maybe?) The only one whose acting impressed me was Noni Hazlehurst, and even she came close to overacting.
The sound department went a bit overboard, especially with the theme song of the movie. It's a good motif, very chilling and surreal, but they overused it. Overrated film, and not at all representative of middle Australia as the DVD blurb claims it is.
