Review of Little Evil (2017) by Thequietgamer — 15 Oct 2017
The talent behind Tucker & Dale vs Evil have brought us another solid horror-comedy. Being a parent can be tough. Especially when it isn't your kid. Little Evil pokes fun at the stresses inherent to being a stepdad. It's not uncommon for the new parent to feel their stepchild is the antichrist from time to time. Unfortunately for Adam Scott, in this case that comparison is true. Something that leads to a lot of funny hijinks.
Much like in Tucker & Dale, director Eli Craig does a great job of poking fun at familiar horror tropes. Each dark hallway and eerie setup leads to a clever gag. The setup this time around is less physical humor, and more on just having the actors say funny stuff. It mostly works. The supporting cast of other stepdads in particular are a laugh riot. The standout being Bridgett Everett who is the funniest thing about the movie. She really needs to be in more stuff. Scott still brings some laughs, but really he's here to do much of the plot carrying. Now, Little Evil doesn't quite reach the same heights as Tucker & Dale vs Evil. It's funny and has some sweet moments, but never really breaks out into all out hilarity. Still, it's a good follow up that shows there's still some life in the horror comedy scene. It's got enough laughs to make for an entertaining watch.
