Review of Little Children (2006) by Professional O — 23 Jul 2010
One day scanning my free movies on demand channel I came across a movie called little children with some interesting actors in it, boy am I glad I clicked play! Little Children tells the story of the suburban life and a follows an unhappy suburban wife(Winslet) and a father who is an aspiring lawyer(Wilson) as they cross paths. They take this further and begin an adulterous affair. Also in the middle is a pedaphile played by the brilliant Jackie Earl Haley. They don't commit the affair out of spite, they have issues in each of their marriages.
Little Children is brilliantly directed and its acting is on another level. It has the most memorable narrator is recent memory, the narration nicely carries the story and adds much needed comic relief. As far as the acting goes, Kate Winslet established her self as one of the best actresses of our generation in this film. She isn't the only one, the supporting performances by Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Connely, Earl Haley, and Noah Emmerich are essiential to the story and they succeed as well. Half way through this film I asked my self, "Is this the best film of the decade?" I was ready to say yes, but the last act was some what dissapointing. I feel they go too far over the top at the end. Though it isn't the best film of the decade, probably not even in the top 10; I have no problem saying it's one of the most well acted films of the decade. The direction by Tomm Field is so good, this isn't easy material, and Field aces it. There isn't one character to root for, everyone is flawed. Hell there is a point Earl Haley's character become the most likable. So overall, Little Children is a good film and extremely well acted. I will warn, it isn't for all people, it isn't filled with action or gritty crime drama, it is simpily a well told story. A true lover of film should enjoy this movie. I hope you enjoyed the review, and you surely will enjoy Little Children!
