Review of Little Children (2006) by Paul R — 11 Apr 2013
What an amazing movie! Similar in narrative structure as American Beauty, yet crafted beautifully as a novel (how appropriate since it is based off of one). Tood Field creates an atmosphere that is almost dreamlike, as we peer into the deep depths of his character's souls as they wander aimlessly, searching for purpose or meaning without any empathy.
He keeps us invested in the emotions, and never lets up until the last impacting image. Such amazing performances, especially from Jackie Earle Haley, who is almost unbelievable. His performance is nothing short of perfection; giving us a character that is deeply disturbing yet captivating by his physical nuances that are a show-stopper.
A sad, dstirburing character that ends us reduced to tears by his pitiful stage in life. This is a marvelous tale of a typical inter-woven American suburbia -- but broken and lost and filled with characters all linked by human faults that culminates into a climactic cesspool of tragedies and revelations.
