Review of Little Buddha (1993) by Matt M — 27 May 2013
Bertolucci explores the Buddhist culture in a film about a Seattle kid who is pointed out as the reincarnation of a Lama teacher. Parallel to this storyline, episodes of the life of the Siddhartha are shown.
Little Buddha is quite disappointing, with its slow pace and its clumsiness in mixing the two storylines together. The art direction still makes it a visual treat, but a greater spiritual and dramatic depth which was badly needed is ultimately severely lacking.
