Review of Little Ashes (2008) by Helene S — 12 Feb 2010

Beautiful shot and acted, but the meandering plot and dialogue left me confused and adrift. And I really didn't feel I understood much about either Dali or Lorca as artists, much less understood what motivated their stormy relationship.

Maybe these two artists were too deep in the closet in what was apparently a very homophobic period in Spain's history to ever have had any kind of relationship that someone today could easily recognize or relate to.

Also, I could have done with some more background into the political situation in Spain at the time, too, but maybe that's just me.
