Review of Liquid Sky (1982) by Dave A — 18 Dec 2008
"It's easy to explain: I'm a killer; I kill people with my cunt!".
This has got to be just about the cultiest cult film going; the arty/deviant early 80's day-glo-nihilistic New York post punk/no wave scene gets a visitation from tiny globular aliens who feed off the endorphins produced by humans injecting heroin and having orgasms. Very low budget, but visually colourful; inspired in places, amatuerish and disjointed in others. Particularly memorable performance from Paula Shepard as deranged yet cute smack dealing electro poet performance artist. Utterly unique electronic soundtrack composed by Brenda Hutchinson and Clive Smith helps add another layer of weirdness. As far as cult films of the 80s go, it's up there with Tetsuo: The Iron Man.
