Review of Liquid Sky (1982) by Justin A — 18 May 2015
A forgotten cult gem. You would never watch a movie like this for the plot. The plot is horrible. The story makes no sense and is more like random things happening just for the sake of random. The acting varies, with the lead being great, but others (like the German scientist) being horrific like he was picked up off the street. None of that matters though, as this movie is all about the costumes and eccentricity of the film. It's like being at a nightclub on drugs, where it may or not be a good time, but it's definitely a trip.
My only big criticism is more with the soundtrack. It's too jarring and a true punk score or hard rock music would have lifted this movie to cult classic status. It's kind of like Necromantik (both as a movie and with the music). Like Necromantik, you can't really tell if it's art or just trash. Either way, it's definitely an interesting watch.
