Review of Lions for Lambs (2007) by Tim S — 07 Jun 2009
I'm not sure what I was expecting with this movie, but I'm pretty sure I didn't get it. It comes of as a typical Hollywood "high and mighty" criticism of politics (more specifically with the US's war on terror) where just when you think you're about to get some profound message or conclusion that you haven't heard before, you don't.
It follows the track of 3 different stories that all in some sense relate to foreign policy in Afghanistan, and the viewer is left with a longing for resolution for 1 of them, and just flat out disappointment for the other 2. I'm sure it was definitely intended that way, but, as I said, there is really nothing here that you haven't seen before on any news site or read in any political commentary or heard in any political debate.
It just seems like a very vague, implied attack on what has happened to America, and that's a shame. I think they should've either taken it further, or just not bothered.
Streep and Cruise are worth watching, and keep things interesting thankfully. Not really recommended, but I guess it's not really a bad movie either. Just don't expect to remember much 1 month after seeing it.
