I got the impression that robert redford heard the quote that explains the title of the movie (alexander the great) , which he goes out of his way to explain in the movie, and thought that he should like to direct a movie about it.

it could have been a good movie if they had left out the I hate bush pandering and simply focused on the story of the current "pampered" student juxtaposed with the former "enlisted" students.

I seem to recall a 60 minutes story about the military tactic that is described in the movie and how it was a colossal failure. I watch the whole thing so that's why I gave it two stars but, really, I wouldn't waste your time.
