I suppose people who follow and analyze both American politics and its military's effectiveness closely might find the story lecturesque, but I'm pretty certain the film directs itself to the other portion of society that chooses to look the other way and walk the more apathetic path. (Probably most of us).

Redford consistently comes out with material that is socially relevant and worth considering. This is neither an action movie nor one of those clean cut stories with a solid answer and happy ending. I was glad I watched it because it doesn't profess to exactly know what the proper course of action is. I agree that it is important to have meaningful dialogue about these kinds of issues and at the very least try to form an opinion about it that one can base their own actions and continuing thoughts about.

Some reviews paint this as just a drab and redundant speech about the apathy of youth and society, but it's ironic that the very apathy towards such issues is a probable factor in its lack of box-office popularity.

It's a great movie to watch if you want food for thought.
