Review of Lionheart (1990) by Jason A — 11 Feb 2009
Lionheart' was the first JCVD film I saw in the theaters, and started my decade long love-affair with his B movies (I would see every van Damme film after this, up to 'Uni Sol 2', @ the cineplex)- as such, it holds a special place in my heart.
This is actually one of his more human films, with the violence and set pieces accentuating what his character is trying to do for his family other than just sit there as a gratuitous atrocity exhibition.
Harrison Page plays the homeless sidekick, and Deborah Rennard plays the sexy high class business woman promoting his fights. Also deserving honorable mention is the always great Brian Thompson (the Night Slasher from 'Cobra'), who chews up all his scenes, much like his chewed up all those bugs in 'Fright Night 2'.
Recommended for Van Damme fans and people who love camp.
