A promising true story is hamstrung by a lack of imaginative writing and direction. The writer, Luke Davies, was worried about a story that relied on "screens on screen" in depicting Saroo's search for his home town.
Unfortunately, instead of thinking of a powerful way to follow Saroo's search for his home, the filmmakers spend way too much time on melodrama. Should have been better!
