Review of Lincoln (2012) by James W — 15 Aug 2013
Daniel Day-Lewis gives a predictably strong performance, and the supporting cast are outstanding too, each worthy of a mention, but seriously, how dull can this film get. Nearly all the scenes are set in dimly lit, atmosphere-free offices that are not only filled with darkness but dreary dialogue.
Considering that this film is set around the time Lincoln sets out to abolish slavery and stop the war, there are no scenes of war, only talks about it. The pace suffers horribly due to the lack of involvement, and the performances eventually become familiar.
I've managed to get my hands on dvd releases of some of the latest oscar nominated films and all of them are disappointing, this has to be the most disappointing of them all. I would rather watch Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter in 3D, that not only excites but puts a spin on the classic historical figure.
