Review of Lincoln (2012) by Aodhan R — 08 Aug 2014
Steven Spielberg's latest film achievement sees the historical tale of the 16th U.S President in the eyes of Hollywood Star Daniel-Day Lewis. Lewis has come along way from becoming a major international star and is the only actor whose won three Oscars for a male actor in a Leading Role - three critically acclaimed and truly unforgettable ones, as I may add. He picked up his third and recent win for playing the President Lincoln. It was definitely an Oscar-worthy performance and Lewis played the part with a lot of heart. It was like the late Lincoln himself was resurrected into the body of the talented Lewis. Lewis's portrayal brought back the profound sadness and great melancholy, in which President Lincoln obtained through a long life of suffering and great loss of few of his dear loved ones.
As usual, Spielberg directs another inspirational movie, for all to see. The script is full of dialogue and dialogue and so much more, all the way through to the very end, so the story doesn't take us to a lot of places, it's simply the basis of historic political rights and debates. It was interesting and easy to keep up on, although I was taken aback as I expected a bit more story around the American Civil War.
Lincoln also features remarkable costume design of the 19th Century and excellent production design.
If many movies all year around were like Lincoln, there'd never be enough inspiration.
