Review of Limitless (2011) by Kevin P — 04 Jan 2013
After seeing this movie, I concluded that I do not like Bradley Cooper. However, ignoring that aspect and just watching the movie, it was enjoyable. Bradley Cooper plays an out-of-luck writer, Ed, looking for inspiration in his life, which he finds in the form of a brain-access pill. This pill changes the course of Ed's life and puts him on the fast track to success. But, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, and Ed quickly realizes that there are consequences to his meddling.
To be blunt, the movie seemed lacking and there were a few scenes that bugged me to no end (i.e. the symptoms of being on "NZT") I have convinced myself that if the movie ran another 2 or 3 hours, I might have enough character development to make a decent movie, but with the roughly 2 hours that we are given through the course of the movie, I felt like I was jumping around in the air, being fed new information that came out as fluff. The writer's weren't in a hurry, yet I felt like the deadline for the script may have been a few hours after the announcement. Perhaps it was the direction, or any number of the other logistical aspects of movie-making, but Limitless seemed to just barely pull off a decent movie. Ultimately, this movie was entertaining, but only barely.
