Review of Limitless (2011) by John M — 12 Jan 2013
Where can I find a drug like that? Limitless tells the story of an uninspired writer (Bradley Cooper) who runs into his ex-wife's brother, who introduces him to NZT, a new superdrug that is not yet on the market that allows you to access 100% of your brain.
While on it, you can recall long forgotten memories you didn't even know were there and be the smartest guy in the room without even trying. But, as with any drug, there are repercussions and side effects.
This is a really cool movie with an independent feel to it. The thing that stands out the most, to me at least, is the cinematography; the way it is shot makes you feel like you're under the influence.
It's a type of filmmaking that you don't get to see very often, as the style plays such an active role in the film. And Bradley Cooper, it's almost like this role was written for him, as it calls for him to be charming and cocky, which is him as a actor to a tee.
It's a tight story, too, never letting your interest wane as you're being exposed to this new drug. If I had a complaint, it would be that it wraps up just a bit too tidy. It's a fun 100 minutes, and I do recommend it.
