Review of Limitless (2011) by Renzo V — 10 Aug 2014
"WHAT IF A PILL COULD MAKE YOU RICH AND POWERFUL?".
- 'Limitless' is a 2011 thriller based on the novel 'The Dark Fields' by Alan Glynn and directed by Neil Burger (Interview with the Assassin, Divergent). The story about a write who gets a pill that makes him smarter begins great, but gets sloppy, makes no sense and even becomes predictable along the way. I did like the action scenes and the different camera techniques that were used. Starring Bradley Cooper (Case 39, The Hangover), Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch, Robocop remake) and Robert De Niro (Meet the Parents, Taxi Driver). Would you take the pill?
Eddie Morra (Cooper) is an author suffering from a writer's block who gets dumped by his girlfriend Lindy (Cornish). One day he walks through New York and meets his ex-brother-in-law Vernon. The two of them talk and Vernon offers Eddie a new drug, NZT-48. Coming home to his flat, he's approached by his landlady who is furious because he's behind on the rent. Eddie takes the pill and becomes incredibly smart. He helps his landlady with her paper, has sex with her and starts to write a new book. Wanting more of the drug, he goes to Vernon's apartment, only to find him murdered. Eddie calls the police, but then decides to look for more NZT. Finding a complete bag, he's now ready to face the world of success...
