Review of Lila Says (2005) by Fatchi D — 28 Apr 2008
A passionate and endearing story of a romantic and strangely sexual relationship of a young boy of North African origin growing up in Marseille and a beautiful, apparently lewd, fascinating young french girl.
Vahina Giocante is simply breath-taking in the role of Lila, a rare combination of powerful, voluptious sexuality, reminiscent of Marylin Monroe, and a mystique of the greatest femme fatales. It's worth watching just for Vahina and the way she teases her would-be lover, but the story of the boy, Chimo, and his emancipation from the dull conditions of his life and his less than mediocre petty hoodlum friends, is also very moving and inspirational.
This is how I remember being in love when young. A wonderful film.
