Review of Like Water for Chocolate (1992) by Regina A — 27 Mar 2009
An amusing visual tall-tale film set against the Mexican Revolution. (Does "tall-tale" sound too off?) Anyway, this Spanish-language film succeeds via unique storytelling and performances, as well as interesting symbolism via food, love, and family.
I'd rate it higher, but its images of nudity, as well as its climax, had me scratching my head at times. Other than that, an amusing film achievement as described above. The quilt scene is one of my favorite moments.
