Review of Like Someone in Love (2012) by John H — 06 Dec 2012
Kiarostami's first Japanese film is a delicate and strangely suspenseful tribute to Ozu. (A filmmaker whom is often paid tribute to). Kiarostami's film takes its time while characters wait, consider and spend a great deal of time being hesitant.
All the characters sadly yearn for love but none of them actually get it. If you can handle the excruciatingly slow pacing, the film is actually heart-breaking in a darkly humorous way. The ending comes as a shock and leaves us considering the difficulties of love or lack thereof.
