Review of Like Minds (2006) by Abigail O — 17 Apr 2008
This film was brilliant, it was creepy, unpredictable, well acted, full of Gothic horror. It starts off being about whether a boy murdered his school friend, or did the friend commit suicide. It is told in flashback, and the two boys in it are very creepy but also ridiculously good-looking.
When Alex and Nigel are staring at each other over the grave of Alex's friend, they looked like they were both doing the "Magnum!" look in Zoolander. Handsome young men aside, this was a great film.
Understated, but there's this brilliant scene of a somewhat dysfunctional family. SPOILER ALERT. Son in bed with mother while father waves shotgun around. Hilarious! And then the bit about Maraclea will leave you going "Eurghhhh!" over the end credits.
But it is brilliant. I hope to see Tom Sturridge again, a very promising actor, and very finely put together.
