Review of Like Father (2018) by Sam S — 12 Sep 2018
To my surprise, I liked this film. Probably because I can relate to it as a reformed workaholic which saved my marriage. This takes that premise and builds a film around it. While it is a serious issue and concern, it is not good for a romantic comedy.
This cast however is fantastic and does what it can with the script. Kristen Bell is the workaholic, Kelsey Grammer is the dad who ran away who comes back and tries to help her, and Seth Rogan is the awkward foil that injects the limited humor into the film.
The material is fairly serious and the acting is solid with everyone around. You even get Kristen Bell singing in the film along with Kelsey Grammer, both Broadway stars. It is good entertainment for 100 minutes if you are willing to take on a serious topic.
If not and you are looking for a pure rom-com, you need to look elsewhere. A solid film.
