Review of Like Crazy (2011) by Victor E — 14 Apr 2012
I was really disappointed with this film. It sounded great initially -- young love, an international twist, drama, bad timing, the pain of being in love with someone and not being able to be with them.
In the end it felt very flat to me. I agree with the critic who said "Their adventures in love matter mostly to them, not to us" (Andrew L. Urban) because that's exactly how I felt. I really didn't care whether they ended up together or not in the end.
I found the British girl and her parents fairly annoying, which didn't help things, and felt that the America boy (Jacob) was rather bland overall. He didn't have much sex appeal and not enough "bad boy" in him to make this film interesting.
Admittedly, there was more chemistry between him and Jennifer Lawrence and I felt he really belonged with her instead of Anna. Jacob and Anna seemed to reunite and drift apart aimlessly, so the movie had no real cohesion.
Lots of potential, but a real miss for me.
