Review of Like Crazy (2011) by Mary W — 18 Jun 2012
Oh another story about true love... wait, this one is actually good.
Thanks to its charismatic lead duo Like Crazy has to offer a genuine, heart-wrenching and romantic love story. Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones are both perfectly cast and their dialogue (which was, as I learned, fully improvised) seems intimate and realistic.
The film has a lot going for it, there's a romance and there are obstacles but unlike so many love stories, these obstacles seem quite realistic (as evidenced by director Drake Doremus own life). There are also a bunch of other talented actors working for the benefit of the lead duo (which has an awful lot of screen time but handles the load pretty well).
If there's one thing I didn't like, it's the abundant use of handheld cameras resulting in shaky-cam-like shots in unsuitable situations.
However, a wonderful story with great performances. Emotional and intimate and seemingly out of life.
